Do you enjoy drawing or wish to begin drawing? Do you have visions of wonder and awe that you wish to bring to life? We all have an artist within us but sometimes it just takes a little encouragement. If this is a journey you desire to go on, then heed this calling for those who would like to be a part of an illustration workshop.
On Jan 30th 2019 Pen Wizardry rises from the ashes. And will continue to resurrect every last Wednesday of each month.
The Pen Wizardry workshop hosted by local artist, Tom Tickner, is returning to Open Source Arts as a monthly workshop installment. Tom is eager to share ideas and visions of imagination from one to another, and build in depth worlds to immerse yourself in. After the success of the last workshop Tom has decided to be more dedicated to the calling of magic and is looking forward to see where this new adventure goes.
Engage and relax into an evening of imagining, drawing and building worlds. We welcome people of all abilities and styles to come along and develop their confidence in drawing and creating places and people of the imagination.
These workshops will involve a variety of drawing exercises and subject matter.
The first few sessions will see us practicing the basics of drawing lines and negative space to relationships (perspective and proportion) and tone.
Then in future sessions we will be upping the ante, as we focus our drawing abilities into the practice of world building.
From Middle Earth to Westeros to Discworld, secondary worlds have inspired and enthralled peoples imagination since humans have told stories.
Over these workshop sessions of world building we will be creating maps, locations, settings, characters, props and scenes of imagination. Practicing to imagine and draw a world that is complete and infused with connected relationships, meaning, lore and verisimilitude.
Channel your inner JK Rowling, JRR Tolkien, George RR Martin, Philip K Dick, Terry Pratchett, Alan Moore, Warren Ellis or Grant Morrison, becoming a pen wizard.
Once we are drawing and building worlds we will then be looking at other drawing methods to expand our potential for showing off our worlds, from comic layout and design to map making, but this much further down the line.
Of course these are later on in 2019 and more details will be posted about the upcoming workshops as they line up. These workshop sessions, while having some progression to them, they can also be treated as individual one-off sessions as well, no commitment necessary as you can decide if the upcoming workshop session is right for you based on the skills we be practicing in each one.
