Join us as we develop our Pro-Class: Dance Open Training programme with a special class from visiting artist Paul Guenot. Paul is returning this Feb to give a special Passing Through class and share some learning from his travels.

ARTIST BIO:

PAUL GUENOT from Stroud is a graduate of the Northern school of contemporary dance, Leeds (2013-16) Following graduation he joined the postgraduate performance company of the school ‘Verve’ (2016/17) creating and touring new works by Leila Mcmillan, Carlos Pons Guerra and James Cousins. He is currently working on a production ‘Parche y Boro’ directed by Valentina Azzati and is teaching improvisation classes to adults, children and professionals.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
For this open dance training session we will practice ‘passing through’. Passing through is a highly physical dance improvisation practice which, above all, is a group experience. It seeks to establish interconnection between the participants and develop a heightened sense of listening. From this place, an infinity of playful creative freedom becomes available in ensemble improvised dancing. Our bodies will weave in and out of ever-changing constellations in an energetic universe of curved pathways.

Passing through was devised by Venezuelan dance artist David Zambrano who has been teaching this method globally for many years. Paul has attended numerous international intensive workshops of passing through led by Zambrano for professional dancers;
One month Passing through only (Sicily, 2017)
And
‘EXIN’, one month intensive of flying low and passing through (Greece, 2018)

Ticketing: you pay £4 on the day or you can pay for a block of 3 classes for a reduced rate of £10 – ticket link coming shortly or you can just pay by cash or card at OSA.

For context and a recap: In December we ran our first Dance Design Brunch & Dinner. We listened to lots of dancers in Leeds and you can see that feedback on the Dance Open Training Facebook Group.

We listened to your feedback and are embarking on a process of experimenting to find what might really work to complement the professional dance training offer already available in Leeds. We have hosted a variety of sessions in different formats, and are continually evolving the process. the next listening exercise is on 19th April, directly after João’s class.

DANCE OPEN TRAINING 2018 FEEDBACK

Dance Open Training has been an essential space for experimentation, gaining experience in teaching, finding support in the local dance community and learning from each other.

Dance Dance Dance – such a calming space, a joy to dance with friends and new friends. Looking forward to the new year.

Fantastic that you bring the community together and offer space for us to speak our minds! Brilliant initiative & better people. I ♥ OSA.

Dance Open Training has created a stronger sense of community between dance artists in Leeds. I’ve felt supported in my own practice and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing other artists sessions – learning and developing in a natural and easy way in a relaxed space has been really wonderful!

I’m new to the organisation but I enjoyed the close knit, friendly atmosphere/ community. Opportunity to experience dance again after several months/ learn different to my stereotypical style.

Lovely, open studio space. Nice break from clinical institutional study spaces. Good vibes! Community vibes.
