Arts SOUP

Democratic microgrants

We are creating an alternative funding opportunity for artists and creative practitioners here at Open Source Arts, in the form of an Arts SOUP!

An Arts SOUP is a democratic microgranting experiment where 4 local artists deliver a pitch for a project or concept they’re developing, and the audience who attend choose one to receive the pot of funding that they have created.

A £5-£10-£15 ticket into one of our Arts SOUP events will buy you a soup and a vote! The pot from ticket sales goes to the artist who receives the most votes at the end of the night!

EAT! VOTE! FUND!

The Arts SOUP opens a new source of funding for artists in Leeds, and it gives our community the power to choose where their money goes. It gives YOU the opportunity to fund the artists and initiatives that speak to YOUR interests.

Apply to pitch at the next Art SOUP event! (submissions now closed!)

The next Arts SOUP event will take place online on the 6th of August, fill in the form below to enter your pitch idea.

Please don’t be afraid to put as much of your personality as you like into the form; express yourself as freely and authentically as you like! If you’d rather submit an audio recording of your answers, or require any additional support completing the form, please email Jacob; jacob.justice@opensourcearts.co.uk

The deadline for submission is the 23rd of July, and pitchers must be free from 7pm-9:30pm on the 6th August.
We will also be running a technical rehearsal and check-in session in the week beforehand to get everyone acclimatised to the online software.

Previous Art SOUP winners

Lottie Loveridge

The first Arts SOUP at Open Source Arts was Thursday 16th January 2020.

Lottie Loveridge with her winning pitch took home a pot of £150!

Lottie’s winning pitch was fully funded by the wonderful people eating a delicious hearty soup. She will use this funding to develop her ‘Bucket Head’ performance- a poignant new work about eating disorders.

Musicultural Conversations

The second Art SOUP on Friday 8th May was virtual, and in collaboration with the beautiful people at Rainbow Junktion, All Hallows Church. We were not gathering in person due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The SOUP format was adapted to support wonderful and inspiring projects that could take place online.

For the virtual Art SOUP, Musicultural Conversations went away with £155!

They will use this to help get their interactive musical online outreach project for refugees and asylum seekers.
