Circle of Idiots: 2 day clown intensive with Lucy Hopkins

Have you ever thought you’re a total idiot? Good news! You probably are.

There’s a whole world of beautiful performance to be made if we can get in touch with our magnificent inner idiot, take a risk, follow our impulse and find the pleasure in playing from exactly who we are.

In this workshop, we’ll play games, explore presence technique, laugh at each other, laugh at ourselves, perhaps cry a bit (hope not too much crying) and get some great insight into who we are as performers and people and the incredible potential to be found in working with what we’ve got.

And we’ll work in the round! The circle is a powerful symbol of infinity, inclusivity and completeness, a space where nothing is wrong and everything has meaning. As much as we want it to.

You are cordially invited to join me in stepping into the ridiculous, infinite unknown.

Suitable for: professional performers/directors, creatives of all kinds, anyone who interacts with humans.

« …watching the other participants individual work was also illuminating, indeed quite amazing… » – Michael

« Lucy is an incredibly nurturing and wonderful teacher who will push you to surprise yourself while diving in… » – Tatiana

« Lucy gives you no place to hide. You expose all your weaknesses and strengths, while feeling completely safe » – Nikoletta

Lucy Hopkins is a professional show-off and an award-winning clown, director and workshop leader, trained in corporal mime and a graduate of the schools of Jacques Lecoq and Philippe Gaulier.

She creates internationally touring performance which is both unconventional and wildly entertaining, and makes a magical living growing people’s pleasure (inc. her own) and helping them (and herself) to share it. She is also one of the creative directors of Heroes of Fringe, who offer award-winning, financially-pioneering, creative-championing venues at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Previous collaborators include The Actors Centre, Spymonkey, Dancing Brick, Caroline Horton, Splendid Productions, Théâtre Interface, The Women’s International Networking Conference, Helvetes Underground and many more.

The foundation of all of her work is her full-hearted belief that people are tremendous.

Open Source Arts is a creative hub committed to empowering creative, practical action towards healthier, more resilient citizens, neighbourhoods and sustainable futures. We operate from our base in a comfortable converted warehouse space on Kirkstall Road and travel into communities to deliver projects.

We are hosting Lucy’s marvellous workshop to provide local performers with access to training and expertise of a really high quality. Lucy is an amazing international artist, and we’re really excited to bring her skills and experience into the grassroots performance community here in Leeds.

We really hope you can join us!
