This event will be an invitation to enjoy deep relaxation with the aim of reducing stress, creating a deep sense of peace and well-being through the soothing vibrations from the gongs and singing bowls.
On arrival, you will be invited to prepare yourself for the practise by getting warm and cosy on your yoga mat, Sophie will then lead you through a body scan and into a guided meditative relaxation. The practice simply requires you to rest comfortably and listen to a specific set of spoken instructions all the while on you lie on your mat.
The instructions invite you to silently rotate awareness around different parts of the body, systematically calming the nervous system, soothing muscular aches and engaging the mind and breath, allowing mental tensions to pause.
As you luxuriate in this soothing state of bodily relaxation, Joe will begin to play gongs and singing bowls, bathing you in sound. Sound therapy aims to re-calibrate the energy of our body, bringing dissonant vibrations within our cells into line using entrainment.
This session is open to all, no previous experience of yoga or meditation is required. Please wear warm and comfortable clothing you can rest easily in. We have a limited supply of mats and blankets so please do bring your own if possible or email Sophie in advance if you need to borrow one – firstname.lastname@example.org
ABOUT JOE: Joe is a professional musician, working as a drummer and percussionist for over 25 years – playing with musicians in all styles, all over the world. His fascination has always been with sound, and his collection of instruments. His dedication to serving the moment and his mature and sensitive musicality has made him a first call musician. Joe has a diploma in Sound Therapy working specifically with Gongs and Singing Bowls.
ABOUT SOPHIE: Sophie is a professionally trained contemporary dancer and yoga instructor. Sophie has been with Open Source Arts since the very beginning, and since even before the 2015 floods, helping with the initial creation of the Open Source Arts vision before the radical change which the flooding brought. Sophie works with us on lots of different strands, but has at her heart a passion for movement practice and yoga. She now coordinates regular yoga and meditation sessions at Open Source Arts.
