Clown Space is a place for those newly interested in clowning, who have already invested passions in clowning and for those actively pursuing a career within the arts.
This workshop will allow you to explore your creativity and to not be held back by judgement of others or from yourself, this will be a safe space for you to fail and to fail better. This will be your Clown Space.
Fresh from our finding the pleasure taster workshop here at Open Source Arts, we have been invited back for a longer more in-depth exploration into the crazy world of clowning.
We will spend the day tapping into our playful clown like selves, failing, laughing and creating moments of pure joy.
The last taster session was spent looking at the pure pleasure in play, in this day workshop we will return this notion of play but with an introduction of an audience present and asking the question of what does that do to you as a clown on stage? how does the exchange and the presence of an audience effect your movement and choice of action?
This class is for anyone that has an interest in clowning or a passion for failure (these people do exist), you haven’t had to attend the taster session in order to grab a spot!
But most importantly we will have a whole load of fun, in an environment that encourages failure at the highest of levels.
So… what are you waiting for? Come fail with us.
Facilitator biography: James Lewis-Knight graduated from York St. John University, with his final degree performance in the style of clowning receiving an 85 (1st). Since graduating James has worked tirelessly to unlock and educate himself in all things clown and mask – to play and to discover what it means to clown, and how you might go about getting there. During his training he has travelled many places, his most recent ventures found him in Berlin where he attended a Clown Course with Denni Dennis and also a 5-day mask retreat with John Wright. After just getting back from a 17-day Mask and Clown retreat with Steve Jarand and Felipe Ortiz in Denmark he’s got so much to share!
