Engage and relax into an evening of imagining, drawing and building worlds!
Join local artist/pen wizard Tom Tickner, who is eager to share ideas and visions of imagination from one to another, and build in depth worlds through drawing.
We welcome people of all abilities and styles to come along and develop their confidence in drawing and creating places and people of the imagination.
Do you enjoy drawing or wish to begin drawing? Do you have visions of wonder and awe that you wish to bring to life? We all have an artist within us but sometimes it just takes a little encouragement. If this is a journey you desire to go on, then heed this calling for those who would like to be a part of an illustration workshop.
An open call to all aspiring illustrators as Pen Wizardry Illustration Workshop returns to Open Source Arts 25th September 2019. Starting in Autumn 2018 to the last series of workshops in January we explored drawing fundamentals and ways of building ideas as well as fun drawing exercises. It was a joy to see what your responses and creations were and look forward to seeing many new creations!
The new instalment of Pen Wizardry workshops will look towards refining what learned from the last sessions and focusing the subject matter into more streamlined schedules, as this will include 6 workshop sessions divided into two groups of three monthly sessions with a break in December and January. There is no need to have done any illustration or drawing previously. All of these sessions will take place on the last Wednesday of the month, and can be done in a block to aid development, or as a drop-in class. The first set of three sessions will focus on drawing fundamentals and breaking the process of drawing down to its basic aspects.
The second set of three sessions will be focused on how to build and develop imaginative thoughts and ideas to accompany your creativity. These two groups have been arranged to separate the subject nature of what is being taught and practised, giving more foresight for people wishing to book in advance.
Pen Wizardry will continue to be in its simplest form a light hearted place to just get on with some drawing.
The set up of these workshops is to explore, encourage and exchange drawing techniques, ideas and other things relating to illustration, exercises and information are provided along with pens, pencils and paper.
These sessions that will take place on the last Wednesdays of the months listed, will cover the following;
The first 3 sessions in September (25th), October (30th) and November (27th) will cover basic drawing principle and practice, including learning about the four elements of drawing, where we will practice lines, negative space in the first session, relationships (perspective and proportion) and tone in the second session and in the third session bringing it all together with some still life drawing.
The next and last 3 sessions throughout February (26th), March (25th) and April (29th) will be focused on setting your own goals for drawing and aiming towards them as well as looking at imagination and how to encourage and develop it. From exercises in imagination, theme, spontaneity and setting limitations to focus on a personal mini project by the final session.
Feedback from previous sessions:
‘Fantastic course – learned a lot and feel like I have a lot more confidence in my own drawing. Relaxing atmosphere, and a great group of people.’
‘Enjoyed the workshop very much. Good handouts and well-structured class.’
‘Therapeutic and a release to find some creativity.’
No experience necessary. Pens/paper provided, but welcome to bring your own!
Entry costs £18 for a block of three sessions (£6/session) or £7 (cash) on the door
See you in the lair
