Pro Class: Dance Open Training with Katy Hewison @ Open Source Arts

Based in Yorkshire, Katy is a graduate from Northern School of Contemporary Dance and Verve18. Her practice is rooted in improvisation, movement research and physical theatre. Katy has worked with Vanessa Grasse, Northern Rascals & has performed work by Sita Ostheimer, Lenka Vagenerova, Matthew Robinson, Hannes Langolf, Jos Baker and Laila Diallo.
Curious about always translating her practice to all ages and abilities in a playful, imagery and self – discovery led way, she has previously taught for professionals at ProDance Leeds & Surface Area Dance Theatre and for young children/youth with NSCD’s Learning & Participation department, North Yorkshire Rural Steps Project, Northern Ballet & Global English Theatre Company.

IMPROPLAY: PROFESSIONALS

The class will move from a slow, sensitive pace, awakening the body to moving with speed and complexity. Inspired by Improplay, current solo work research and recent experience with David Zambrano in a month’s intensive in Brussels.

Improplay is a practice in which Katy is continually researching and developing focusing on using specific imagery and ways of working with energy, space, pathways and textures of movement. It aims to allow individuals to play, ignite & develop their own way of moving, making choices (within material and improvisation) and using influences from the people, environment and architecture around them.

This class is specifically for professionals with dance experience. (Other strands of the practice are: Improplay- bringing together young children & professionals, inspiring and igniting imagination across the ages and abilities. Also Improplay: Kids, Improplay: Youth, Improplay: Adults & this workshop for Open Dance Training – Improplay: Professionals.)

Ticketing: £4 cash on the day.
