Space and Venue Hire
We have a wonderful multi-purpose space in a homely open urban warehouse setting at Aire Place Mills on Kirkstall Road.
Space can be hired at a reasonable price by individuals, groups and organisations for events such as conferences, gigs, meetings and classes. Artists can hire the space for rehearsals, research and development, and interactive workshops.
Individual spaces, multiple spaces and the whole venue can be hired.
Depending on activities, multiple spaces could be in use at any one time by different groups.
As such, unless full venue hire is requested there is usually a mixture of some noise, people and activity in and around the spaces.
If there is an existing event in the calendar, it may still be possible to hire a space alongside; so please get in touch.
Artist Studios are also available to hire in Kirkstall, Leeds, right next door to the event space outline below. Access to the event space is included in studio membership, and may be a more preferrable way for you to do what you want to do here! There are a couple of options for Artist Studio Membership to suit different artforms and lifestyles.
Dance Studio
This is a bright, warm and airy open plan studio space. This dance studio has an oak sprung dance floor. Sofas, chairs, tables, or a breakout area can be arranged. This space can be used for movement based practices, conferences, workshops and presentations. Movable mirrors can be reversed to reveal wooden display boards.
Dimensions: 14m x 7m.
Plenary Space
This downstairs space is ideal for conferences or intimate concerts and performances. The floor is slightly uneven concrete, with a bright abstract mural on the walls, and an industrial aesthetic. The plenary area houses some temporary visual exhibition space.
Dimensions: 11m x 12m.
Aerial Training Space (High)
Our permanently installed aerial trapeze rig has 6 high points suitable for rope, silks, static trapeze, aerial hoop and everything else you can suspend yourself from.
Dimensions: 7.5m centre point, two 6m points.
Aerial Training Space (Low)
We offer three low training points for conditioning and practice. Judo mat flooring and professional crash mats are available as standard for acro-balance practice and tumbling.
Dimensions: Three 3.5m points.
Cafe Space
The café space can be hired for functions or gatherings, training events or seminars. The cafe space is designed to be an available community resource, with a fully fitted commercial kitchen -5 grid professional convection oven, induction hobs and bar facilities (available subject to license approval).
Dimensions: 8m x 6m.
Kitchen
We have kitchen facilities available at Open Source Arts for a small additional charge. Space hirers are also welcome to hire external caterers for their event. If you want help finding a suitable caterer, please let us know.
Metal/Wood Workshop
We have a practical, well-resourced manufacturing workshop for metalwork and woodwork.

The sewing/costume making area has multiple working industrial sewing machines and plenty of table top space to work with fabrics.

Booking a space
When considering hiring a space, please request for the whole time you will need the space, including any set-up and take-down time for your activity. We offer bookings in hour blocks, and bookings must be an hour minimum. Please call us for standby space.
