Open Source Arts was impacted in 2015 by the devastating flooding which struck Kirkstall on Boxing Day, and our building flooded. Open Source Arts was central in the volunteer response through the opening and operation of the Volunteer Resource Centre on our premises on Kirkstall Road, to cleanup Kirkstall businesses post flooding. We also helped administer the Flood Shop o Kirkstall Road which provided a help point for those affected. Open Source Arts developed this wonderful volunteer response into the Team Kirkstall River Cleanups Project, which continue to this day!

Open Source Arts are also pleased to be working alongside the River Stewardship Company and Groundwork NEWY delivering a programme of weekday river stewardship volunteer days, as part of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme. These weekday sessions will complement the Team Kirkstall cleanup sessions which we will continue to facilitate.

Join us for the next weekday river stewardship day!

Creative Stewardship Solutions

We work with communities to empower local people with the practical experience, skills, training and equipment to safely and autonomously become stewards of the wild places near where they live– helping create a movement of local activists who are committed to improving biodiversity.

We work with landowners to develop creative solutions helping people fulfil their riparian responsibilities – working in partnership with landowners to create strategies for managing flood risk on their property and managing invasive weeds which damage infrastructure, impact upon the value of their assets, and reduce bio-diversity – please contact us to talk more.

We are continuing to develop our range of riverside conservation activities, with a creative approach to stewardship with a range of outdoor furniture-making projects, art in wild places and opportunities for young people to get stuck into taking care of their micro-wildernesses.
